With the winter months nearly behind us, the iconic home of speedway for 90 years at Western Springs is getting an early birthday present with some venue upgrades that will enhance the historical speedway track.
Planning for these upgrades began 12 months ago, and will provide a better competitor and fan experience at the venue. Auckland Stadiums Director James Parkinson has provided a tight timetable for the works that will ensure that our Grand Opening Fireworks Speculator goes on unimpeded on November 2nd.
Stadium Road will have ongoing work to continue beyond 2 November 2019. But, shall remain accessible with two-way traffic by opening night and will in the long term provide a better in/out option for our competitors transporters.
The Front Entry (Ticketing) Building has been demolished and a new single level multi-purpose building will be constructed by 2nd of November
Turn Four Town Bend Toilet Block upgrading work is pending resource consent and work will commence once consent is granted. Work is slated for completion by the 2nd of November.
Pine Tree Bend Toilet Block Building will be demolished. Containerised toilet blocks previously from Mt Smart Stadium will replace this.
The Maintenance Shed, as you enter the venue at the main gate, will be demolished and relocated behind the turn two corporate hospitality box. This has been scheduled for completion by February 2020.
“Auckland Stadiums is confident the above works not compromised at all for any event in 2019/20 season,” said Springs Promotions Managing Director Bill Buckley.
“We are keeping a close eye on the developments that are ongoing, and have the confidence that Auckland Stadiums will be able to deliver what they have promised. The 90th birthday celebrations will kick off on November 2 with all classes running for their Auckland Championships and spectacular Fireworks Display.”
