A late change of dates for our 90th Jubilee has paid dividend with Springs Promotions Ltd securing an additional night of racing now bumping our season schedule to eleven nights for the 2019/2020 Summer of Speedway.
“It was a last minute negotiation with Auckland Stadiums and we are happy that we can get another show in the calendar for the fans,” said Promoter Bill Buckley. “This season is our 90th Birthday and we hope that all the fans get to enjoy what is the world’s oldest, longest-running dirt speedway. We have to thank the public for being patient as we finalised the calendar as we worked together with Auckland Stadiums.”
Opening night has been the meeting moved now back on its Traditional night of November 2 with All Classes running for the City of Sails Auckland Championships and a Fireworks display to bring the evening to a climax.
The next show on 30th of November will house the North Island Midget and Sprint Car Championships.
The first of our big International shows fire up on 7 December with the 15th Running of the Porter Hire International Sprint Cars with each round hosting a star-studded line up of the Kings with Wings. We will also have USA v AUS v NZ test racing and the World Quarter-Mile 40 Lap Sprint Car Feature.
After a whirlwind trip around the upper north island the Yanks and Aussie Sprint Cars are back at The Springs on 14th December for the grand final of the Porter Hire International Sprint Cars and the “Firecracker Fifty” – that’s right a 50 Lap Sprint Car feature event- WOW!
With the Christmas Turkey and Ham happily tucked away the biggest, baddest Boxing Day Bash is set to take Front and centre stage in what could be close to another sell-out event as the United Truck Parts World Midget Series rolls Into town for the opening round of the award wining Midget Car event – 30 Lap Feature with the traditional three-race test series being held on the night.
After a quick trip back from the sunshine district at Bay Park we have the World 30 Lap Derby staged on December 30 – one of our longest running events that has housed some memorable magic moments. Round 2 of the International Test Match racing with races 4-5-6 in the 3 round nine-race series.
Friday January 3, 2020 will see us back at the Springs (after another round of action at Huntly) for the United Truck Parts King of the Springs 40 Lapper this will be the final test racing for the test teams and also night one of the hotly contested NZ TQ Championship.
Sunday, January 5 will be the one “everyone wants to win” – the Jewel in the Crown United Truck Parts World 50 Lapper. This prestigious event has never failed to deliver a more fitting open wheel spectacular than this. The champagne will also be flowing for the crowning of the New Zealand TQ Champion.
Saturday, February 1, we return to celebrate our 90th season with our Legends Night. The annual Barry Butterworth Classic will run where the fastest boys (and girls) will fight their way through in true Butterworth Style from the back. Special Legend races for Sprint Cars and TQs will also be on that night as well as a guest appearance from the stars of yesteryear in a special Jubilee invitation.
Rolling Thunder is slated for 15 February with the big high-horsepower V8’s rolling into town for this fab favourite event. It will be finals night for the Formula Two Midget Stampede and the Sprint Cars will be fighting it out for the Rolling Thunder Winner’s ring.
At last, but not least, we will end our season on March 7 with the Fireworks Spectacular. Heritage Shield for all classes, the vintage midgets will be making an appearance and the National Series Finals for all classes will be hotly contested. It will be a long winter as we wait for our 92nd season to kick off in November again.
